Season's Greetings

I love this time of year, gearing up from right before Thanksgiving thru Christmas, Kwanzaa and on to the New Year. Most people are more generous, compassionate and thoughtful of others. We volunteer a little more, give to the less fortunate more frequently in these few weeks, than the rest of the entire year. Many, begin taking stock of themselves spiritually, and make resolutions to improve certain things about themselves and their lives for the New Year.

This time of years brings many debates and discussion on a Spiritual versus Religious platform. It's pretty much agreed upon that Jesus wasn't born on December 25th & that Santa originally had nothing to do with Christmas, AND that Christmas itself has become very commercialized. Nevertheless all of these things do not diminish the essence of the Season. Our families come together, We talk to our children a little more about the creator, and think about more than the every day hustle. Even the littlest ones learn a little about why it's important to do the right thing. That there are rewards for those who live righteously. Due to the economic downturn in recent years we found ways to become creative with our gift giving, and encouraging our children learned to be happy with getting a little less, while appreciating what they already have even more.

It is my belief that one doesn't have to be Christian in order to appreciate & participate the Christmas Holiday. It is not a belief shared by several members of my family and close circle of friends, which brings me to my current topic of discussion. Do the words Spiritual and Religious still go hand in hand? Is it possible to be Spiritual without necessarily subscribing to any given Religion? Does one have to be Muslim, Christian or Jewish in order to get into heaven? Does an awareness of the Creator and trying to do more good in the world than bad count? Are we supposed to believe in what our parents believed in because it's what we were taught? Are we required to teach it to our children? Or can we teach our children about the God & Blessings, Sins & Karma, introduce them to all Religions that pique their interest, leaving the ultimate decision up to them?

Are you SleepWalking

We live surrounded by things that tantalize and tempt and satisfy our senses so delectably we forget that our spirits are as equally insatiable. We start making those big dollars, and can afford the luxury cars, houses in the suburbs, exotic vacations, high end apparel and forget we came from the slums. We forget the struggles of our parents. We forget the struggle of their parents. We forget our own struggles to get out of whatever hood, ghetto, and/or dysfunctional household we were brought up in. Some of us become SleepWalkers. Life is sooo good it's easy to forget the struggle. All the things that are important. As we make that climb to the top of our selective mountains we forget the pain and struggle upon reaching the Summit. We forget the people we were forced to leave behind to get there. When we had nothing we were easily in remembrance of  our Creator, of Karma, we had to be in order to keep the faith that things would get better.

Don't be a sleep walker. Wake Let this be a wake up call to you. Karma is a motherfucka, and will come get your ass. Don't let the media make you think you are safe because you attained what they deem as success. Don't let the authorities make you complacent with their injustices towards other because you got your shit straight and don't what happens to someone else hasn't happened to you. You get right law authority figure on the wrong day and you can be one of the masses who's shit ain't straight. Money can't solve all things. It's all an illusion. And injustice to one person, is an injustice to all. Careful you don't attain true consciousness of what's going on around here and find yourself bound & gagged.

1984 was a fictional story, but we aren't far off. Wanna take a domestic flight from EWR to ATL? Be prepared to have a complete body scan at the airport, and if you don't submit you better allow them to do a full body search or miss your plane and possibly face a fine. Wanna cash a check at a bank you don't have an account at? Be prepared to give them your fingerprint or leave empty handed. Wanna get a new job? Fuck a piss test, be prepared for them to make you submit to a credit check as well. Oh, it doesn't stop there. And it won't not so long as well don't become aware.

It's Election Day

It seems there is no honor in politics these days. I'm so dismayed at the quality of choices  I have in my area, and their methods of obtaining support that I am seriously considering voting G.R.I.P (Get Rid of Incumbent  Politicans) this evening when I go to the polls for my district.

As I sit here typing this blog post, I receive a phone call (the 6th in a week) from 732 750-5580 with someone one the line on behalf of my union wanting to know who I plan to vote for. Now, I've told them on the first call to remove me from their calling list. I do NOT pay union dues for them to use my money wastefully on political endeavors such as this. I do not appreciate them attempting to influence my vote.

Not only have I received calls from my Union, but also from supporters of  the politicians for my district that are running for office. I've gotten calls from volunteers in DC, & NJ on my home and cell phones. I feel bombarded with so much propoganda that they think if the issues are clouded I wont see through the mist and draw my own conclusions.

I've had pamphlets come in the mail, and left on my front door. I want to leave a laminated note on my front door at home stating If you leave political propoganda at this address rest assured we will not be casting our Vote in your favor.

I want to call the radio station and say Dear politician, I don't care how much mud you sling on your opponent, I don't care how much you try to influence my decision -- it's still my decision.  And I'm going to make it on my own. I don't care that when I registered to vote at 18 I said I was a democrat. I will easily vote for a Republican, Independent, or Libertarian should I decide they are more qualified than you.

Who is "That Chic" ??

I am soo tired of hearing young women, older women, even women my age claiming to be That Chic or That Bitch. So I've decided to clarify exactly what the qualifications are to claim the title of "That Chic"or "That Bitch". So read carefully ladies

That Chic

*Has gainful employment
*Has her own funds
*Has a Higher Education or is actively pursuing one (sorry, a high school diploma simply doesn't cut it anymore)
*Has ambitions and goals she is actively pursuing to fulfill her dreams
*Is LOYAL & Trustworthy
*Is Confident in herself and her capabilities
*Is NOT a Jump Off
*Has proper table etiquette
*Has traveled beyond the borders of the State/Island she was born within
*Is comfortable in any environment; whether it be corporate, upscale, or chillin on the block.

If you can't fill all of these minimum requirements. You aren't That Chic quite yet. But don't be dismayed, personal growth is a working process.  Very few of us are exactly who we imagined we would be when we were children. But each day is an opportunity to get closer to our own personal ideal.

Property Of

I recently wrote an article for Stunt'N with regards to the concept of Property in the Biker Community and in Society as a whole. As stated in the article, initially I was totally taken aback. Skipp tried to explain the concept to me numerous times, and I just couldn't see the benefit in any shape, fashion, or form...So he put me in contact with a woman who has been Property Of  in the Biker community for over 20 years, and invited me to spend a weekend in Atlanta attending the James Gang Anniversary Jjune 18 & 19, 2010. After speaking to this woman, I had a different opinion. Perhaps hearing it from a woman's perspective put things in alignment. I was more open to it, and prepared for what to expect during my visit...

WELLLL let me say, after my visit, I proudly wear my colors, (yes I have colors) and totally understand the solidarity, the protection, the openess, & the adventure that comes with being Property Of.  At the Anniversary party I met women who were full members of both Coed and all Female Motorcycle Clubs. While gathering research for this months article in Stunt'N I came across numerous articles, blogs, and websites for Coed Motorcycle Clubs dealing with issues of mutual respect of the female members. I also came across an equal amount of information pertaining to all Female Clubs having difficulting gaining respect from their male counterparts in all Male and Coed Clubs. I received the upmost respect and courtesy as Property Of  Skipp (James Gang). There was no need to prove myself or my worth to anyone.

Now, I don't know if Biker men overall are different when socializing within the Biker community than they are in their day to day lives. I do know, however, that there is a HUGE difference between the Outlaw Biker and a Social Setting Biker. This I can say from my own personal experiences, up to & including weekend of June 19th. Friday night was a Meet & Greet at the James Gang Clubhouse. Although I was not in Colors although all the other Properties were, I had very few encounters of Male Bikers being too friendly or disrespectful. The other women (with the exception of one) were extremely friendly and welcoming. Nuff respect to Chris and Sunshine(of James Gang MC) and Hollywood (of Strikers MC)for welcoming me into the Fold with open arms.

I look forward to my next vist to the Atlanta area. Although I live in the New York Tri-State Area, I find myself rocking my Colors, proudly and scoffing at the Biker Boys in this area who have no clue. Oh, I take the time to enlighten them, as I was. The Bike Scene is so much different in this area than what I was exposed to in Atlanta. I find that I prefer the Motorcycle culture in Atlana and the South becuase it seems to be it's own Culture,  Lifestyle, something that extends well beyond a hobby.

Welcome to The O Zone

Welcome to my little piece of the World Wide Web.  I'm not a Celebrity Gossip, or a Political Enthusiast. I'm just an opinionated Chic who works a nine to five, and busts my ass to raise my children right, while still finding time to enjoy some personal pursuits.

I crave knowledge and I'm blessed to lead a very versatile and interesting life. Therefore my Blog will contain some of this and some of that. I love to travel, I love fine dining, fashion, literature, fast powerful vehicles, personal fitness, finance, and politics among other things. I have a love affair with adventure and thoroughly enjoy each new experience, each new challenge.

I was recently asked to facilitate a Column for Stunt'N Magazine. Yeah, the one based out of Atlanta and created by Skip of The James Gang. One of my many interests has always been Motorcycles. My father was a rider, and I had my first experience on the back of a bike when I was just in kindergarten. He picked me up from school, telling me he had a suprise...I'm thinking he finally got me that Cabbage Patch doll I'd been beggin for. NOPE. He had his bike sitting outside in front of the school and handed me a helmet. I remember feeling scared as shit but happy as hell...That began my lifelong infatuation with Motorcycles and Cars. At 24 I got tired of being on the back of the bike and took some classes with Rider Education of New Jersey at their Brookdale NJ location to get the motorcycle endorsement on my license.

By the way, today is April 15th. I hope everyone has their taxes filed before 11:59pm. This is the first year in about 4 years that I've filed mine in a timely fashion. I usually owe somebody some how, so I figure what's the rush??
